Wilson Farms 'Step Up to the Plate' Campaign Kicks Off to Benefit Meals On Wheels

Month-long fundraising campaign benefits programs statewide

Rochester, NY – Visiting Nurse Meals On Wheels (MOW) and Wilson Farms kick-off the eighth annual “Step Up to the Plate” fundraising campaign to support the homebound elderly and disabled served by Meals On Wheels programs throughout New York.

From October 26 through November 26, customers at Wilson Farms, Sugarcreek and Wilson Farms Xpress stores will have the opportunity to participate by donating $1 to receive a paper plate. Each dollar raised in the participating store will be donated to the nearest senior nutrition program to directly benefit homebound residents in that community.

“This is such a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with local businesses to raise awareness of our program for the benefit of our community,” said Phil Shippers, director, Visiting Nurse Meals On Wheels.  “The generosity of the customers and employees of Wilson Farms make this campaign a huge success.”

Since 2004, the campaign has raised more than $212,000 for Meals On Wheels programs statewide.

“Wilson Farms is proud to partner with Meals On Wheels,” added Kim Tylec, spokesperson for Wilson Farms. “We know that through the generosity of our customers we can once again make this campaign a great success.”

16th Annual Run for Hospice
Helping families heal through remembrance

The Run for Hospice continues its stride in helping families heal through this annual event of remembrance, scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Grace & Truth Sports Park, 373 North Greece Rd., marking its 16th anniversary of families and friends gathering to remember loved ones who in their final days, were cared for by Visiting Nurse Hospice (VNH) staff and volunteers.

For the past 16 years Peter Van Peursem, Run for Hospice event director, has worked tirelessly to ensure that others in the Rochester community will have the same supportive and comforting experience he and his family had with VNH through the final stages of his mother’s life. He was deeply touched by the support the hospice staff provided, and felt an event like this would be a fitting tribute to his mother and a way to thank and recognize those involved in her end-of-life care. To that end, $382,000 has been donated to VNH.
