Better Breathers February Meeting: What to expect from an ambulance ride
On Wednesday, February 6, 2013, the local Better Breathers group will learn what to expect from an ambulance ride, preparing attendees if they are ever in such a situation. Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester and Monroe County, Inc. (VNS) and Upstate Home Care are hosting the meeting from 5:00pm-6:00pm at the VNS building located at 2180 Empire Boulevard in Webster. The meeting is free to the public and open to persons suffering from pulmonary issues and/or their family members.
VNS’s Jacqueline Coates, Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, will provide the presentation for the evening, as she has more than 30 years of experience in emergency medical services (EMS) with both volunteer and paid agencies. Coates is the recipient of the 1996 Monroe Livingston Regional EMS Educator of Excellence award and the 1997 New York State EMS Educator of Excellence award.
As part of the American Lung Association, Better Breathers is an educational/support group for pulmonary patients and their families. The group meets monthly, hosting guest speakers, group discussions, a question and answer period, and a time for “sharing and caring.” Members learn about the latest research and development relating to shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. If attendees suffer from Emphysema, Bronchitis, COPD, or other respiratory diseases, they can learn better breathing techniques. Handouts, pamphlets, and an expanding library are readily available to members. Better Breathers meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month from 5:00pm-6:00pm. There is no cost to attend. Each meeting is held at the VNS building at 2180 Empire Boulevard in Webster. For more information, call 787-8360.
